I am a therapist
If you help people, we want you to help us get people the Talking Therapy they need today.
Get Stable matches client need to mental health practitioner availability nationwide.
The Government has committed to spend an additional £400 million over the next four years on IAPT. Although groundbreaking, this programme delivers only a limited range of NICE-approved Talking Therapies for which only around 15% of patients reach recovery.
This paper argues that a public service which fails to successfully treat around 85% of the population does not provide a reliable intervention to ensure recovery and avoid the cycle of dependency and despair resulting from poor mental health.
Recommendations from the paper call for a wider range of Talking Therapies to be available through the NHS, for commissioning to be based around Payment by Outcome to avoid public money being wasted on unsuccessful for treatments, and for highly qualified therapists in the private and voluntary sector to be able to engage more effectively with the NHS.
